Expanding Spaces – Making a House a Home – External Block work Wall Construction

Day twenty two to twenty six – 25th -29th November (week five)

Building Regulations Requirement:

Ground Floor wall construction

  • 100mm Blockwork external skin
  • 100mm cavity filled with GA4000 insulation or similar
  • 100mm Blockwork internal skin

This week we managed to install the steels, marine ply to the single storey flat roof, timber joists and insulation to the flat roof making the single storey section enclosed to the elements except for the doors and windows.

Sections were cut out of the rear wall of the house to house the joists for the flat roof and act as a support at one end. When these were cut into the wall we lost a massive amount of polystyrene balls for insulation.

We had a third guy on site he was a blacksmith and was there to adjust all the steel in preparation to be installed adding joints, wholes, welding and cutting them as required for installation.

Whilst the steels were being prepared the labourers got on with the preparation works engineering bricks and padstones that are required.
